ONLINE via Zoom*

Join us for a fun course on Japanese Bookbinding. Students will make two Japanese bound books using paper covers.

This workshop requires a kit that will be mailed to registered students. Registration will end on Tuesday, July 14th at 12 noon, so that kits may be received by July 21.

Level: This class is appropriate for students at all levels.
Dates: Tuesday & Thursday evening, July 21st & 23rd (Registration will end Tuesday, July 14th at 12 noon)

Cost: $60 tuition & materials + $5 postage fee

Lindsay Nakashima is a recent graduate of the North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA and a student of papermaking at the University of Iowa Center for the Book. She has been living in Austin since 1998. Lindsay studied Japanese bookbinding with Kaoru Harada of KaoPok Bookbinding in Nagoya, Japan summer of 2014.

 

*Registered students will receive a link to the Zoom meeting in the confirmation email. Students will also receive detailed instructions on how best to participate via Zoom, helpful if one is unfamiliar with the platform.

In addition to a tablet or computer with a reliable Internet connection and a well-lit space in which to work, students will need to provide the following:

[1] Sharp pencil with eraser
[2] Metal ruler or straight edge, 12” minimum length
[3] Self-healing cutting mat or several layers of cardboard to protect table surface
[4] Bone folder
[5] Scalpel or x-acto knife
[6] Bookbinders awl
