Don’t throw away that oat milk carton or coconut water receptacle! We will use them in this easy, unintimidating entry-point to intaglio printmaking! We will create beautiful prints all without acid or expensive metal plates. In this class, you will learn to use old cartons as printing plates, apply ink, set up the Book Arts Center’s etching press, and prepare paper for printing. Participants should bring a couple of pencil sketches or design ideas to class and expect to complete two small projects over the weekend.

Completion of this class will allow you to rent the etching press for Open Studio.

Anna is an Austin-based Book Arts Center volunteer and enthusiast! She received a degree in Painting & Drawing from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2011 and returned to Texas in 2016.

Anna has worked as a freelance illustrator for various nonprofits, including MDRC, an organization, conducting rigorous studies of programs and policies that affect the daily lives of Americans as well as Wonders & Worries, illustrating their first picture book about Max, a young child whose dad is diagnosed with cancer.  She won Austin’s SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) Emerging Voices Illustrator Mentorship Award in 2019 and a portfolio showcase honor award in 2020.
