Making Perfect Pocket Utility Notebooks:

Stop paying too much for Field Notes, Moleskeins, Rhodes, and the like!  Learn to make your own pocket notebooks to your EXACT specifications.  With very little effort, you can design and construct a notebook with the perfect paper for your needs, sized to fit in whatever pocket you need it to.

Over 2 relaxed pace days, we will learn fundamentals like paper grain, proper folding and cutting techniques,  and material choices.  We will cover a variety of binding styles such as staple binding, paper case binding, pamphlet sewing, and pad binding.  We will also cover embellishments like pockets, perforated pages, and decorative covers.

Concepts covered include:
*One page no-sew mini zine
*Rubber band binding system
*Pamphlet sewing
*Staple binding
*Paper case construction
*Tear away notepads, both glued and perforated styles

Students will receive a reference booklet covering the class material to take home, as well as all models they make in class.

Level: This workshop is appropriate for adult students at all levels, including beginners.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR
I’m Cooper McBean, a musician, artist, handyman, toolmaker, and bookbinder living in Austin, TX.  I’m largely self-taught using scavenged materials and homemade tools, but have been enjoying filling in the gaps in my bookbinding education since discovering ABAC. I’ve been making books for around 30 years, and especially enjoy making tiny books from scraps and trash.
