Paste Paper and Piano Hinge

THIS WORKSHOP WILL MEET IN-PERSON AT THE AUSTIN BOOK ARTS CENTER.

Paste paper is a decorative paper technique where patterns and designs are created on a paste covered surface using tools and brushes.  The papers were traditionally used for end papers and book covers but have multiple other uses.  In the morning we will create our decorative papers and in the afternoon, we will create a piano hinge binding and a small 4 section accordion book with pockets.  The piano hinge binding requires no sewing. Instead, the signatures are woven together and resemble a piano hinge. Various recipes for making paste will be shared along with other book ideas.
