Custom Clamshell Box

THIS WORKSHOP WILL MEET IN-PERSON AT THE AUSTIN BOOK ARTS CENTER.*

Learn how to make an elegant and archival custom-fit clamshell box for your treasured books. The clamshell box features two nested trays with a drop-spine case, covered in durable bookcloth. Participants will learn how to measure your book to create a custom-fit box, including how to trouble-shoot if your book isn’t perfectly even. There will be options for label recesses and decorative elements. It is a beautiful way to protect cherished books from weathering, warping, and other damage. Materials will be provided for one box.

Tools students should bring: X-Acto knife or scalpel with extra blades; Olfa or similar utility knife with snap-off blades; Sharp small scissors; Small triangle 3″ (PeacheyTools.com has great small metal triangles for box making); T-square or 8-12″ triangle; bone folder; metal ruler; pencil

*Masks will be required, regardless of vaccination status. Students are asked to stay at home, if feeling ill for any reason. Make-up classes will be scheduled if necessary.
