Flatback Case Binding

THIS WORKSHOP WILL MEET IN-PERSON AT THE AUSTIN BOOK ARTS CENTER.

The Flatback Case Binding is one of the most common and recognizable structures today. In this workshop, students will learn foundational binding skills to assemble two different styles of covering known as quarter cloth and half cloth. The Flatback Case Binding is easy to construct and is perfect for small publications, artist books, journals and more.

Level: This class is appropriate for adult students at all levels.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Erin Fletcher is the owner of Herringbone Bindery, where she crafts one-of-a-kind fine bindings and small editions for various clients and institutions. Her work is regularly exhibited throughout the US and abroad. She first discovered a love for bookbinding while studying at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This experience ultimately brought her to study bookbinding at the North Bennet Street School in Boston where she graduated in 2012. Before moving to Austin in 2022, she worked as an instructor at NBSS for the Continuing Education department and prior to 2020, for the Middle School Book Arts program. She also regularly teaches book arts workshops at other institutions around the country.
