Activist Posters

THIS WORKSHOP WILL MEET IN-PERSON AT THE AUSTIN BOOK ARTS CENTER.

Activist posters have been an integral form of public art, often political in nature, since their inception. They can be carried in a march, hoisted at rallies, or displayed in the streets. In this workshop, we will make multiples by learning the basics of letterpress printing by collaboratively designing and printing a small edition. Students will learn the fundamentals of proper presswork including registration, inking, and impression.

Level: This class is appropriate for adult students at all levels.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Kyle Schlesinger is a poet who writes and lectures on typography and artists’ books. Schlesinger’s recent books of poetry include Parts of Speech (Chax Press, 2014), The Do How w/ James Yeary (Great Fainting Spells, 2013), and Picture Day (Electio Editions, 2012). Scholarly works include Letterpress Revolution (Ugly Ducking Presse, 2016) Threads w/ Steve Clay (Granary Books, 2015), Poems & Pictures: A Renaissance in the Art of the Book (Center for Book Arts, 2010). He is proprietor of Cuneiform Press and Associate Professor of Publishing at UHV.
